GYEN is a Japanese Yen-pegged stablecoin issued by GMO-Z.com Trust Company, a limited-purpose trust company chartered by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). It is marketed as "The First Regulated Digital JPY" and maintains a strict 1:1 peg to the Japanese Yen.
Mechanism
Every GYEN in circulation is 100% fiat-backed and always redeemable 1:1 for JPY directly with GMO Trust, eliminating intermediaries. Reserves are held in segregated accounts and independently attested monthly by a third-party accounting firm, with reports published publicly. GYEN is classified as an e-money token under EU MiCA regulation (Regulation 2023/1114), which restricts its availability in the EU.
