About Hyperliquid
Hyperliquid is a layer 1 blockchain running an onchain perpetual futures exchange; its USDC vaults include HLP, the protocol's market-making vault, and trader-run strategies.

Hyperliquid is a layer 1 blockchain whose HyperCore layer runs fully onchain perpetual futures and spot order books. Hyperliquid vaults pool USDC that is traded on this exchange: depositors own a share of the vault and take its profits and losses. These native HyperCore vaults were introduced in 2023; the documentation now calls them legacy vaults and points builders to tokenised vaults on HyperEVM.
HLP. The HLP vault, or Hyperliquidity Provider, is a community-owned protocol vault that makes markets through several strategies, performs liquidations and receives a portion of trading fees. Its liquidator vault takes over positions that cannot be closed on the order book; these backstop liquidations are profitable on average, but HLP carries the market risk of the positions it absorbs. HLP charges no fees, and deposits can be withdrawn four days after the depositor's most recent deposit.
User vaults. Any trader can open a vault and trade perpetual futures with depositors' USDC; these vaults cannot trade spot or builder-deployed (HIP-3) markets. The vault leader must keep at least 5% of the vault and receives 10% of depositors' profits. Returns depend on the leader's trading, and past performance does not guarantee future returns.
Withdrawals. User vaults have a one-day lock-up after a deposit, and the leader's profit share is deducted when depositors withdraw. If a vault lacks free margin, open orders are cancelled and positions are closed in 20% steps until the withdrawal can be paid, which can cause slippage. When a leader closes a vault, all positions are closed and depositors receive their share.
