YieldBasis is a crypto protocol that lets people put Bitcoin or Ethereum to work without giving up the usual up-and-down price exposure of simply holding those assets. In a normal trading pool, liquidity providers often end up worse off than if they had just held the coin, because the pool automatically sells some of the asset as it rises and buys more as it falls. YieldBasis is designed to avoid that drag: you deposit only the coin, the protocol borrows a matching amount of a dollar-like stablecoin, and it keeps the position balanced so your share still tracks the coin’s price one-for-one while collecting trading fees.
In practice, depositors receive a token representing their share of that position. They can either keep it and earn fees in Bitcoin or Ethereum terms, or stake it to receive the protocol’s YB token instead. The idea is simple for users—earn yield on BTC or ETH without the usual “impermanent loss”—but it still carries real risks, including sharp price drops in the underlying asset, delays when withdrawing after big market moves, and reliance on the stablecoin and smart contracts that power the system.
